Biography

Cryptic Hour began in July of 2006 as Consfearacy, a Progressive/Death Metal project with current guitarist/vocalist Matt, ex-guitarist Danny Pettit, and ex-Drummer Cory J. While searching for a distinctive sound, Cory was released from the band, and Local musician and current guitarist/vocalist Mike(7th Seal, Once Tarnished) was brought in to play drums. The band then chose to chose a new direction, a new sound, and a new name, ARMEDFORCE. The band decided to go with an anti-liberal, pro-military message, to react to such bands as Green Day and OTEP among others.

ARMEDFORCE wrote 10 songs and recorded “Passion of Warfare,” before disbanding in December of 2006 due to some unfortunate events with ex-guitarist Danny. Matt and Mike decided that the many hours of hard work would not go wasted because of Danny’s departure, so Local musician Brad Quinty(Once Tarnished) was brought in to play drums and Mike made the switch to guitar. Shortly after Jerry Rials(Full Bore/440) was brought in to play bass. After three short but tedious months ARMEDFORCE once again changed their direction, elimnating all political views from the bands music, and once again changed the band’s name to Cryptic Hour.

Cryptic Hour hit the studio in Spring of 2007, but the bands first day in the studio proved to be extremely unfortunate, due to a dirtbiking accident which hospitalized now ex-drummer Brad. About a month later another setback came, when ex-bassist Jerry quit the band to pursure a military career. Matt and Mike were once again left without a rythym section, and decided to take some time to write more material and record five songs. In July of 2007, Local Musician Aaron Hughes(RAM, ExMortis) was brought in as to play drums and definately has not disappointed, proving to be one of the best drummers in the roaring fork valley. After juggling bassists like Monica Lewinsky juggles old dudes testicles, Cryptic Hour has found a perfect fit on the low end with Ryan Wolff. After Cryptic Hour solidified their setlist with their new bassist, they decided it was time to begin writing more progressive and technical music, so Matt and Mike decided to put down the microphones. The search for a vocalist was short, because the band already had a phenominal singer in mind. Eric Smith Joined the band in January of 2008.

Cryptic Hour are a group of very diverse musicians from very different backgrounds, bringing elements of thrash, melodic metal, and hardcore into their sound. The Iron Maiden inspired guitar harmonies, sick low end thump, and off rythym, driving double bass, punk-rock tinged beats alone will leave you craving more. The In-your-face vocals will throw you up against the wall, and the face-melting guitar solos with put you right through it. Cryptic Hour are currently in the studio recording their first full length album “Engraved.” The “Songs in the Key of Loud” Demo featuring “No Compromise”, “Passion of Warfare”, and “On the Inside” is now available.
